Robert Greene of Montclair age 87

KINNELON — Services were held for Robert George Greene, MD, 87, of Montclair, who died on Friday, November 2, 2012. He was the brother of Alan of this community.

Born in New York City, Dr. Greene was raised in Newark. He was a doctor with a private practice in Montclair for 42 years before retiring in 1997. Also, he was a former president of the New Jersey Orthopaedic Society, the Associated Physicians of Montclair and Vicinity, and the medical staff of Mountainside Hospital, Montclair, where he served as director of the department of orthopedics. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a teaching fellow at Harvard University and a longtime faculty member of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. And, he received the Lifetime Service Award from the New Jersey Orthopaedic Society in 1997.

Services were Saturday at Mountainside Hospital. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery. Donations may be sent to the Judith A. and Robert G. Greene MD Endowed Scholarship, Perelmen School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Medicine Development, 3535 Market St., Suite 750, Philadelphia, PA 19104.

Dr. Greene also is survived by his wife, the former Judith Alper; his daughter, Elizabeth of Seattle; his sons, Adam of Madison, Wis., and Jay of Seattle; and two grandsons.

He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Rose.
