Mr. Betteridge, 89, died Nov. 20 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Born in Barrington, Ill., he was raised in the township and attended the Short Hills Country Day School, the Pingry School in Elizabeth and the Loomis Institute in Windsor, Conn. He lived in the township for most of his life before moving to Chatham nine years ago.
He graduated from Yale University in 1945, after serving as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army in World War II. He earned a master's degree in business administration from New York University.
Mr. Betteridge spent a 35-year career at AT&T, serving in numerous executive positions. He retired from AT&T as vice president in 1986.
He was active on the Millburn Free Public Library and Pingry School board of trustees, the Yale Alumni Club, the Millburn-Short Hills Republican Club and, most recently, the Millburn Old Guard. He was a lifetime member of Christ Church in Short Hills.
Mr. Betteridge is survived by two sons, James of Guilderland, N.Y. and David of Duxbury, Mass.; a daughter, Ann Wheeler of Haymarket, Va.; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
