John Capri Obituary

CAPRI
John Anthony, age 91, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2016 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Born in NYC, and raised in Lodi, NJ, John enlisted in the Navy at 17 years of age and proudly served in WWII and the Korean War. The GI bill afforded him the opportunity to attend Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he graduated cum laude. John later received a Masters Degree from Rutgers University. He resided with his wife, Doris and daughters, Donna & Carol in Clifton, NJ until 1957, when he moved his family to Miami and worked as a teacher with Dade County Schools. He was an active member of United Teachers of Dade and UNICO.
John was an avid non-fiction reader and history enthusiast. He loved cooking and was famous among friends and family for his homemade pizza. John was a liberal progressive, ahead of his time in so many ways. A sensitive and compassionate man, he advocated for the underdog and those less fortunate than him. He fought hard against racism, anti-Semitism and bigotry and passed these values on to his children, grandchildren and great-grand-children. His love of family and for life itself, together with his strong sense of fairness will be missed.
Devoted father, proud grandfather of five and great-grandfather of five. Loving brother of surviving siblings, Tony Capricuso and his wife Lillian; sisters Anna Marie Meunster and Louisa Faul; and dear uncle to many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Sat., Dec. 3 at 11 AM at Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 113 South Farview Ave., Paramus, NJ

I remember John, very active in United Teachers of Dade. He was nice, intelligent and always helping his colleagues. John was an active UTD union member involved in various committees and task forces prior to his retirement. I will certainly miss him. Carmen Esquijarosa, United Teachers of Dade.
