Richard D. Pizzo May 2, 1951 - July 20, 2013 Canterbury - Richard D. Pizzo, 62, of Wauregan Rd. passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon at his home surrounded by his family. He was born May 2, 1951 in Norwich the son of Sophie (Goncharow) Pizzo of Jewett City and the late Richard J. Pizzo. Mr. Pizzo had resided in Canterbury for the past 33 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed by Freeport McMorin for 18 years. On October 6, 1973 he was united in marriage to Gayla Tondreau Pizzo who survives him. Mr. Pizzo enjoyed spending time with his family, his dog Toby and his music collection. Besides his wife and mother he leaves a daughter and son in law Melissa and Timothy Jonasch of Danielson, four grandchildren Bryanna, Caydan, Bradey and Gavin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday (July 30, 2013) at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary Church in Jewett City. Burial with military honors will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson. Visiting hours at Dougherty Bros. Funeral Home 595 Norwich Rd. Plainfield are Monday (July 29, 2013) 5-8 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Killingly Youth Soccer Parents Assoc. P.O. Box 422, Danielson, CT. 06239.
