Frank George Opalensky, 95, formerly of Masury, Ohio, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Sunday, July 27, 2014, in the home of his beloved daughter, Jean (husband Nick) Kusich of Avella, where he resided for the past year.
He was born May 29, 1919, at home in Masury to the late George and Mary Sokora Opalensky.
On September 4, 1952, he married Jennie Marie Vicozi, who is deceased.
He was a member of St. Bernadette's Church in Masury for many years.
Mr. Opalensky served in the U.S. Army as a technician artillery battalion. He received the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with two bronze stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with a bronze star, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal World War II. He also worked as a cook and was a retired electrician from National Castings.
His favorite pastime was fishing on the lakes of Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Surviving are his children, Jean (Nick) Kusich of Avella and Frederick J. (Wilma) Demay of Masury; eight grandchildren, Kenny and George Kusich, Marsha Pleta, Mary Insana, Tim DeMay, LuAnn Greathouse, Geoffrey and David DeMay: 16 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren: two sisters, Margaret Colundja of Farrell and Stella Zavada of Brookfield, Ohio: nephew George Battyanyi of Sharon; and niece MaryJean Greleski of Tucson, Ariz.
Deceased are his parents; his wife of 55 years, Jennie, who died June 25, 2007; a son, Ronald Demay, who died June 17, 1972; and four sisters, Frances Kersosky, Helen Kasmere, Julia Sirko and Violet Schiaville.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Lane Family Funeral Homes, Madasz Chapel, 6932 Warren-Sharon Road, Brookfield, Ohio, where a funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 31, with the Very Rev. Father Frank Zanni V.F. officiating. Burial will follow in Brookfield Township Cemetery, Brookfield, with full military honors.
