Herbert J. Paraska, 76, originally of Manifold, died unexpectedly Saturday, August 16, 2014, in St. Clair Hospital, Mt. Lebanon.
He was born October 1, 1937, in Washington, a son of the late Stephen Joseph and Camille Mary Greenawalt Paraska.
Mr. Paraska was a member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Meadow Lands.
After his graduation from Trinity High School in 1955, he was manager of Basle Movie Theatre and Route 19 Drive-In. He began his career with Pennsylvania State Police January 28, 1960, during which time he served in the U.S. Army with the Military Police from 1961-1963, receiving the Good Conduct Medal and the Letter of Achievement. He then returned home and was stationed in Erie with the state police. He was later transferred to Troop B, Washington Barracks, until his retirement July 20, 1990. He was elected for multiple terms as president of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 47. After his retirement, he was employed by City Coin Vending Co. in Bridgeville for several years.
He loved to golf and enjoyed playing in many tournaments. He especially enjoyed The Meadows Casino and traveling to Las Vegas, Nev.
Mr. Paraska was a member and former member of many clubs including the Fraternal Order of Bears in Meadow Lands, Arms Club in Washington, Independent Club in Houston, Elks in Canonsburg and Loyal Order of Moose in Washington.
He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Mr. Paraska was formerly married to Lillian Park Paraska of Washington, who survives.
Also surviving are daughters Michele (Brian) Bell of Washington and Tami Paraska (fiancé Mike Sedunov) of Wyano; brother Jerry (Betty) Paraska of Houston; two nieces, Lorie Dulaney and Lisa Busco; and nephew Steve Paraska.
Deceased are brother Albert Paraska and nephew Mark Paraska.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., Wilson at East Katherine avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director, where a prayer service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 21, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Meadow Lands, with Father Carmen D'Amico, as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery Mausoleum, Peters Township. Full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 and the U.S. Army. An FOP service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
