JoAnne Leone Roberts, 61, died Tuesday, May 20, 2014, of lung cancer in her Allentown home.Mrs. Roberts was born in Monessen March 22, 1953, to Joseph Leone, a steelworker, and Julia Gush, a homemaker.She attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania for her bachelor's degree in fine arts, before earning her master's degree in art education from Pennsylvania State University.She married Edward Roberts, an electrical engineer whom she met at IUP, December 27, 1975. Her daughter, Phoebe, was born in 1987 and her son, Casey, in 1989. She taught art across grade levels in New York, Massachusetts, and California. Mrs. Roberts was an active member of her school communities, organizing festivals and arts events, as well as being a Sunday school teacher in her church. She was a talented artist in many media, interested in various creative pursuits and had a great passion for animals. She is remembered by those who knew her as intelligent, creative, multi-talented, gracious and kind.She is survived by her husband, Edward, and her children, Phoebe and Casey.A memorial mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 24, in St. Ursula Roman Catholic Church, 1300 Broadway, Fountain Hill, PA 18105.
