John A. Kinder, 93, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014, in Villa Maria Rehabilitation Center, St. Maria, Calif.

He was born September 24, l920, in Washington, where he attended local schools and was a 1939 graduate of Washington High School.
Mr. Kinder was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving on the Destroyer USS Taylor in the Pacific. He moved to Santa Maria in l950 and worked for NH3 from l950 to l955, then worked for Union Oil Co. from l955 to l958
He then started a career in automobile sales and finance with Van Wyk Pontiac-Cadillac, in l964 worked for Iversen Motor Co., moving to Clark and Larsen VW in Lompoc, Calif., in l968. He then returned to Iversen Motor Co. in l972, becoming finance and insurance manager, until retiring in l982, although he worked part-time until l992.
Mr. Kinder was a life member of Disabled American Veterans, a member of American Legion and Elks Lodge for 55 years.
Surviving are several cousins.
Deceased are his father, Arbie E. Kinder in l975; his mother, Stella E. Kinder in l988; and a sister, Geraldine Martin in l996.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, August l, in Santa Maria Cemetery.
