Robert J. Sliman, 81, of Washington, died Saturday, June 7, 2014, in Washington Hospital.He was born June 17, 1932, in Washington, a son of the late Joseph Affif and Rose Arcuri Sliman.Mr. Sliman was a graduate of Washington High School and received an associate's degree from the University of Pittsburgh.He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served from September 27, 1950, until his honorable discharge as an airman, July 21, 1954. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and Korean War Service Medal.A member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, he retired from U.S. Steel Corp. as a patent illustrator.Mr. Sliman was a member of Edward Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion and the Alpine Club. He had formerly been a member of Elks Club, Pulaski Club and Pittsburgh Pirates Diamond Club.He was an avid golfer, who enjoyed all sports, and he loved spending time with his family, especially his two grandchildren.On September 26, 1959, he married Maureen Pesognelli, who survives.Also surviving are a daughter, Lisa (Carl) Livingood of Washington; a sister, Regina (Michael) Livelli of McMurray; two grandchildren, Tyler and Lexi Livingood; and several nieces and nephews.Deceased are four brothers, John W., Edmund F., Aldo and Thomas Sliman, and a sister, Amelia Faiella.Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, in St. Hilary Catholic Church, Washignton. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Washington. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, Four Gateway Center, 444 Liberty Avenue, Suite 1300, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.Additional information and guest book are available at
