William Frank Ferlich Sr., 91, of Washington, died Thursday, April 24, 2014.He was born December 19, 1922, in Meadow Lands, a son of the late Frank and Josephine Gruden Ferlich.Mr. Ferlich was a graduate of Trinity High School.He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a B-17 pilot during World War II in the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe campaigns. For his service, he was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Service Ribbon with three battle stars and the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters. Mr. Ferlich was honorably discharged November 18, 1945, with a rank of first lieutenant.Mr. Ferlich worked at Universal Cyclops until his retirement.A family man, he enjoyed yard work and was a member of SNPJ. He was an avid golfer and a member of the golf retirees league.On January 10, 1947, he married Ruth Stewart, who died in 2002.Surviving are two sons, Dennis (Mary Kirkland) Ferlich and William F. Ferlich Jr., both of Washington; a sister, Helen Kocian of Meadow Lands; three grandchildren, Melanie (Eric) Hartzog, Justin Ferlich and Will Ferlich; and several nieces and great-nieces.Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, with David Deagel officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens.
