Arthur Fulton Obituary

Arthur Shrontz Fulton passed away peacefully Thursday, February 11, 2016, in Washington Hospital, with his wife and family by his side, following several years of strokes, diabetes, neuropathy and pneumonia complications.
He began his life's journey November 12, 1941, a son of Sara Louise Shrontz Fulton and the late Herschel Brontz Fulton.
Mr. Fulton grew up in Washington, attending 5th Ward School, and playing ragtag football with Anthony "Tony" Musto, Pete Cowieson, Jimmy Braden and buddies.
He was a 1959 graduate of Washington High School and played tuba for the Little Prexies, where he derived the nickname "Tubby." As a teenager, he worked at Kenny Snyder's Sunoco station on East Maiden Street, which he later owned.
Mr. Fulton served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Korea as a radio communications liaison.
He was a coal miner at Vesta 4 and Emerald Coal mines. He was an employee of Washington Paint and Glass for a number of years and enjoyed the trade. He owned Anderson Glass in Washington for a short time and founded Waynesburg Glass and Mirror, which was a standard for over 20 years. His true passion was farming. In his youth, he worked on his grandparents' farm, the Late Frank W. and Elsie Wilson Shrontz, in Ten Mile.
Mr. Fulton met his future wife, JoAnna Millikin, at Lone Pine Christian Church. They were married in the church parsonage and serenaded by the village of Ten Mile. Together, they resided in Lone Pine and raised three children, Brent, Brian and Laura.
He dedicated his time to his children's passions as a Ten Mile Valley baseball coach, past president of Lone Pine School PTA, youth group leader, Sunday school teacher and elder and trustee at Lone Pine Christian Church. He was also a former president of the Tri-County CMF group of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). If anyone needed anything, he was there to help.
Mr. Fulton especially enjoyed playing tuba and marching in the Chartiers Houston Fireman's band and National Uniontown Veterans of Foreign Wars band. His other interests included being a lifetime member of Washington and Greene County Antique Tractor Association, National Pike Steam, Gas and Horse Association, and a member of American Legion Post 744. He enjoyed playing Santa Claus at social and church events.
He was a past member of Lone Pine Christian Church and active member of First Christian church in Washington, and was recently board-nominated as elder emeritus. Throughout his life, he also enjoyed his time with cousin, Frank L. Bebout "FLB", who worked with him, traveled with the family and aided him as the need arose.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife of 54 years, JoAnna Millikin Fulton; children Brent "Brenny" A. (Paula) Fulton of Lone Pine, Brian K. "Ding" (Lori) Fulton of Canonsburg and Laura Louise "Weezie" (Jeffrey) Nedley of Washington; a sister, Sally Louise "Lou Lou" (Daniel) Comstock; a sister-in-law, Janice L. Fulton; grandchildren Ryan Andrew Brontz Fulton, Aaron Chase Fulton, Jeffrey Joseph Nedley and Natalie Louise Nedley; nieces Michelle (Tim) Wendell and Rebecca Fulton (Mathieu) Griffin; nephew Robert (Kari Beth) Fulton; and other family members.
Deceased, in addition to his father, is a brother, Robert John "RJ" Fulton.
Family and friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 1 to 8 p.m. Monday in Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 16, with Pastor Stephen Smythers officiating. Interment will follow in Lone Pine Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, 615 East Beau Street, Washington, PA 15301.

Not sure what to say?

February 23, 2016

I just learned of Art's passing yesterday, Feb 22. I'm so sorry I missed getting to the funeral home as I would have liked to speak to you all. Art was a Great Guy and I always enjoyed visiting with him in recent years. I cherish a picture, a selfie, I took of Art and I at the County Fair a few years ago. Long live the Memories of the Class of '59. I lived across the street from Art on Maiden St back in 1st and 2en Grade. RIP my Friend...

We are very sad to learn of Art's passing. Our thoughts are with JoAnna, Grandma Fulton, Laura and family and Brent and Brian and families. Art was one of the toughest guys we ever met and at the same time, one of the sweetest. He cared about his family and friends and was always there to help. What a full and amazing life he led. He will be missed! Much love to his family, Pam and Pete.

Joanna, Brent, Brian and Laura,
So sorry for your loss, your dad was one of a kind, always there to help no matter what was needed, our families had a lot of good times together over the years, from night fishing, to all 9 of us riding the big sled thru the old corn field and down the hill, things that will never be forgotten and are the best memories. My heart us broken for the Fulton Family, especially for Sara. She lost her husband way too soon, and now she has lived to see two sons go to Heaven before her. Please know that I will be keeping you all very close in my thoughts and prayers ~ especially Sara! May God surround you all with an extra measure of His presence and peace.

Joanna, Brent, Brian, and Laura,

What a tremendous eulogy for Art. Even though I never spent an extended amount of time with Art, over the years of growing up and visiting my grandparents, I still remember him dearly. I always thought he was such a great guy, fun, forthright, tell it as it is kind of guy. I watched your posts on Facebook and can tell he lived life on his terms and enjoyed it all. I hope you can draw on your faith to receive peace from the Lord during this difficult time. Our prayers are with you and all of your family. Love to you all. Craig & Darsi Ewing
