Ocala - Billy D. Cordrey was born in Ocala, FL on April 19, 1928 and went to be with the Lord on September 30, 2013. He was the son of the late Percy T. Cordrey, and the late Rachel Pearl Kirkland of Ocala.
Billy was educated in Marion County, and then joined the U.S. Army and served at the end of World War II for eighteen months.
He returned to Ocala and became involved in the citrus business with his parents. He was owner and operator of Cordrey Grove Service for many years. After the freezes in the 1980's he became involved in land sales and development. He developed Regal Woods Subdivision of Ocala, and with his partners, developed Lakeside at Lake Bryant.
His love for God and faith in Him was evident in every part of his life. Over the years he was actively involved as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. His passion for the Bible and spreading God's Word was his motivation for his becoming a Gideon in Ocala. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Ocala.
His family is grateful for his loving ways, and his consistent, Godly life. He is survived by his brother Rudy L. Cordrey (Shirley); his wife of 63 years, Betty Faust Cordrey; their son Doug (Kathy); their daughter, Cindy Crawford (Terry); and Georgia Guin, who is loved like a daughter. There are nine grandchildren: Scott, Skip (Liz), Sean, Seth, Suzanne and Sam Cordrey, and Heather Fatigate (Paul) of Ft. Lauderdale, Michael Nabers, San Francisco, CA, and Scott Nabers, Jackson, MS. His great grandchildren include Cole, Abigail, and Emmitt Cordrey and Hailey Fatigate.
We give thanks to God for the excellent care given by Dr. Melvin Seek, Robin Brown and associates at Ocala Kidney Group. Also we are grateful for the training and care received at the Davita Peritoneal Dialysis Clinic. Doug Nagle, PA, Countryside House Calls provided needed home care, Integrity Health Care (nurse Amy) for frequent visits and help and Bruce Howard, Woodbridge Physical Therapy who helped Billy with mobility. The MRMC Renal Department nurses were so appreciated, with special note of Robert, Meghan, and Tricia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to the Gideons International for the distribution of Bibles in Billy's memory. They may be mailed to Gideons International, P.O. Box 6242, Ocala, FL 34478.
