Micanopy - Donald W. Ford, age 90, of Micanopy, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, February 23, 2013.
He was born in Jackson, Michigan to John W. and Leona Ford, and lived most of his life near Somerset, Michigan, as a farmer and as a manager at the General Portland Cement Company. Donald served his country honorably in the Army during World War II, earning the Bronze Star for action at the French-German border. He moved with his family to Florida in 1963, but returned to Michigan in 1971 when he retired. After working successfully in real estate for a few years in Michigan, in 1979 he and his wife, Barbara, moved to the Micanopy area. He worked locally in sales for Jim Walter Homes and for Dan's Fan City. He enjoyed horticulture and was happiest caring for his fruit trees.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Barbara R. Ford; his daughter, Patricia D. Joiner of McIntosh; sons Donald D. Ford (Martha) of Hastings, MI and Daniel E. Ford of Winter Springs, FL; seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
No memorial service will be held at this time, and interment will take place in Somerset, Michigan, at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the .
