HANDLEY,

Jerry Lacey Handley left this world suddenly on November 29, 2013 at the age of 66 to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jerry was born in Hawkinsville, Georgia on October 3rd, 1947 to Claude and Zelma Handley. His father was in the military and the family lived in many different places in the US until settling down in Ocala, Florida when Jerry was 12. He graduated from Ocala High in 1965 then attended Central Florida Junior College with an AA Degree. Jerry then joined the army where he served at various U.S. bases throughout Europe until he was honorably discharged in 1969. He then attended the University of Florida and graduated with a Bachelor of Science and a Masters in Ac-counting.
Jerry recently retired as a Senior Audit Partner from Purvis Grey & Company, a state-wide CPA firm founded in Gainesville in 1946 with other offices in Tallahassee, Ocala, and Sarasota, where he worked 39 years, pioneering the firm's local government, electric utility and not for profit audit practice. He was known around the state for his work in these industries. He was a member of the American and Florida Institutes of Certified Public Accountants, the Florida Governmental Finance Officers Association, and was active in the Florida Electric Co-operatives Association among others.
He was a loyal husband to his wife Carol of 34 years, a devoted father to his son Wayne Handley, and a loving Poppy to his granddaughter Kelli Handley. He leaves be-hind his brother Larry Handley (and Susan), his nephews Robert and John Handley, his niece Shannon Handley, and his cousin Judy Manning.
