Scrambletown - John L. Verge, 86, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at home. He was born on July 24, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY. He was raised in the boys home called Bonnie Brae Farm in New Jersey. He was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving from 1944 to 1965 which included WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He was active in the VFW for many years. He moved to Florida in 1970 from New Jersey, and he has resided in Marion County ever since. He loved his country, his family, and fishing. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth; daughters, Margaret Schoenleber (Ed) and Ellen Nichols; grandchildren, Ed Schoenleber, Brandon Randall, Eric Schoenleber, Michelle Nichols; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his son, Jon William Verge; brother, Gordon Verge.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, FL at 2PM. He will be interred at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
