DOSH, SR., SIDNEY PERRY, 96
On May 19, 2014, Sidney Perry Dosh, Sr., 96, passed away at his grandson's home in Ocala.
Born in Ocala on May 6, 1918, Sid graduated from Ocala High School in 1936. Within three years he landed a job in the banking industry and his career was on its way. Forty-one years later he retired as Senior Vice-President and Cashier, from what is now known as SunTrust.
In 1944, Sid entered and served in the U.S. Army for 19 months, 14 of which were spent overseas with the 99th Infantry Division of the 3rd Army. During an air attack, he suffered leg and neck injuries from shrapnel and was later awarded the Purple Heart.
Over the years, Sid joined many community service organizations. His membership in the CFCC Foundation Legacy Society, of which he is a lifetime member, was dearest to his heart.
In addition, he was a life-time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the 99th Infantry Division Association. As the oldest continuing member of the Ocala Lions Club (67 years), Sid served many roles, including president. For 60 years, Sid was a member of the American Legion, a life-time Emeritus donor to the Marion County Blood Bank, and a member of the Ocala Golf Association and Elks Club. An avid golfer, Sid served many terms as Director, President, and Chairman of the Operations Committee, of Golden Hills Turf and Country Club. Sid also served as Director of the Ocala/Marion County Chamber of Commerce, was a member of the City of Ocala Adjustment Board and the Ocala Planning and Zoning Commission. In addition, as an active member of Grace Episcopal Church, Sid served as Senior Warden.
Sid is preceded in death by his parents R. N. "Bert" and Annie Laurie Dosh, wife Joy Rose Dosh, son Sid Perry Dosh, Jr., brother Louis N. Dosh, and sister Virginia Dosh Wood.
He is survived by his brothers Robert (Doris) Dosh of Orlando and Laurence (Betsy) Dosh of St. Petersburg; granddaughter Shannon Dosh of Ocala; and grandson Louis "Rusty" (Pam) Dosh of Ocala. Great grandchildren include Andrew Preston, Ash Preston, Zachary Preston, Kimberlie Plogger, Ryan Plogger, and Annie Dosh.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00AM on Tuesday, May 27 at Grace Episcopal Church (504 SE Broadway, Ocala). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the R. N. "Bert" Dosh Endowed Memorial Scholarship or Hospice of Marion County.
