HUFF, WILLIAM J., 81
Ocala - William (Bill) J. Huff, age 81, of Ocala, FL passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 10, 2014, following a long battle with lung cancer.
Bill was born in Evansville, IN on December 05, 1932. He grew up farming, hunting, and fishing in Owensboro, KY. He graduated from Daviess County High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and proudly served during the Korean Conflict. On May 16, 2014 he was given a final pinning ceremony for his service to our country. Following his military service, Bill moved to Florida and married his long-time love, Wanda J. Griffin. They were married for 44 years.
Bill worked as an Air Conditioning Maintenance and Repairman and retired as a Supervisor at Bendix/Allied Signal in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He and his wife were blessed with children and always took time for family activities, such as listening to old country songs, square dancing, and enjoying summer vacations in the North Carolina mountains. He was a friend to many in Pompano Beach and Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Upon retirement, he and Wanda spent time traveling around the world; the Swiss Mountains, Australia, and Alaska being some of their favorite destinations. They later moved to Cherrywood in Ocala, FL. He was often visited by his children and entertained by his grandchildren. Bill spent his golden years reading cowboy books, watching westerns, tending to flowers in his garden, and watching an occasional auto race or football game. He especially enjoyed his days at the Veterans' Club, nights at the clubhouse, evening walks around the neighborhood, and his time sitting on the front porch talking with friends. Some of his last words were, 'Tell everybody I love them. I sure do.'
He is survived, loved, and will be deeply missed by his wife Wanda Huff of Ocala, FL; sons Stephen Huff of Dyer, IN and Ron Brack of Boca Raton, FL; daughters Sharon Huff Lenhardt of Orlando, FL and Karen Huff Cylc of Orlando, FL; sisters Elizabeth Huff Ellis and Peggy Huff Davis of Owensboro, KY; brother David Huff of Sacramento, KY; and 9 beloved grandchildren (Sam, Meggie, Ethan, Kaitlyn, Tyler, Andrew, Derek, Chase, and Alexander). He was preceded in death by a son Charles (Chuck) Brack.
A funeral service with military honors will take place at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cherrywood Veterans Association or to the Legacy Hospice House of Ocala, FL.
