WADSWORTH -- C. Robert "Bob" Arnold, 79, of Wadsworth, formerly of Rittman, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Hospice Care Center in Copley.
He was born on January 21, 1934 in Canton to Dode and Katherine (Karns) Arnold and lived most of his life in the Rittman/Wadsworth area.
He graduated from Canton Lehman High School in the class of 1952 and was named Stark County Most Valuable Football Player and First Team All Ohio Halfback. After graduating high school, Bob attended Michigan State University where he played college football. He graduated from Kent State University in 1959. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1953 to 1956 where he attained the rank of Sergeant.
He married Joleaine Morledge in 1955, she preceded him in death in 1988.
Bob worked for Ohio Injector Company in Wadsworth as the Controller and Assistant Treasurer for 10 years and also worked for Akron General Medical Center as Sr. Vice President and CFO for 28 years until retiring in 1999.
He served on the Board of Directors for Healthcare Financial Management, Finance Committees for Voluntary Hospitals of America; Akron Hospital Association; and Stan Hywet. He also served on the Board of Directors for Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens Foundation, United Way of Summit County Budget Committee and in 1981 received the William G. Follmer Merit Award for outstanding service in chapter activities. Bob was also a member of the Milton Presbyterian Church in Rittman.
Surviving are children, Kim (Rick) Adams of Seville, Terri Arnold Penrose of Wadsworth, Robert (Trudy) Arnold of Rittman and Michael (Cheryl) Arnold of Wadsworth; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, David Arnold of Canton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, William Arnold and Dwight Arnold.
Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Milton Presbyterian Church, 250 North St., Rittman, with Rev. Alex Barnes and Rev. Dr. Richard Lapehn officiating. Burial will be at Rittman Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 17 at Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W. Sunset Dr., Rittman.
