Charles E. Boyce of Andover, Mass., former longtime resident of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and beloved husband of MaryEllen (Leahy) Boyce, died at his home, surrounded by family, on December 2, 2012. He was 87 years old.
Born in Derby, Connecticut, he was the beloved son of the late Charles P. and Kathryn V. (McCarthy) Boyce.
Charlie was a World War II Army veteran, entering the service at Fort Devens on October 20, 1943. He was drafted after his junior year at Ansonia (CT) High School and saw his first combat as part of Company L, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Division on Utah beach during the D-Day invasion. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon with three bronze stars for valor in combat. Upon returning from the war, he attended the University of Miami and joined Diamond Crystal in 1948, in field sales for the salt division. Charlie earned several promotions, serving as regional sales manager in Akron, Ohio from 1966 to 1973. He retired as President and Vice Chairman of Diamond Crystal Specialty Foods, Inc. of Wilmington, Mass. in 1990. He was a former member of the advisory committee for the American Dietetic Association (Chicago). While living in Ohio, Charlie was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary parish in Cuyahoga Falls.
Above all, Charlie was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His son, Dr. Patrick Boyce, a former Beacon Journal paperboy, remembers that his dad helped him every week with the Sunday delivery. Besides his beloved wife of 62 years, MaryEllen, he will be very sorely missed by his loving children, Michael L. and his wife Patricia Boyce of Ellsworth, Maine, Ellen M. and her husband John Moss of Concord, Patrick J. and Claudia Ciano-Boyce of Southampton and Anne E. Boyce of Maplewood, New Jersey; six grandchildren, Caitlin, Cameron, Will, Meghan, Halle and Liam; eleven nieces and nephews. He was also the devoted brother of the late Eileen Kennedy and brother-in-law of the late Edward J. Kennedy of Huntsville, Alabama and Mary Lou and the late Thomas Leahy of Glastonbury, Conn.
His memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 198 Haggetts Pond Road, Andover on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at 11 a.m. Calling hours will be held at St. Robert's on Friday, December 14, 2012, from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be private. So sorry to hear of Charlie's passing. I worked at Diamond Crystal in the late 80's in Ohio. Charlie was such a gentleman and always generous with a word of encouragement to a rookie sales rep. So sorry for your loss.

Charlie was always a pleasure to talk with at the golf course. He was a very smart man and glowed while speaking of his wonderful family. May he rest in the eternal light of the lord. God Bless Charles F. Borruso

My sincere heartful sadness for the passing of Charlie. It was always a pleasure speaking with Charlie and MaryEllen while I was cleaning their home. You have a special angel in heaven now watching out for you all. He was very proud of each of you.

I had the privilege of working with Charlie while I was at Q&J Advertising in the 80's.
He was a terrific businessman and a great "guy".
My sympathy to the Boyce Family.

My deepest sympathies to all the family. I have such fond memories of Charlie as I was growing up on Cedar Hill Rd and having Ellen as my best friend. The laughter in the Boyce home, the rides to the Elms in the morning when Ellen and/or I were running late and missed the bus and just hanging out talking. Good happy memories . . . thanks Charlie. You were an important part of my growing up.
