Dr. Donald Eugene Taggart

Dr. Donald Eugene Taggart, born July 26, 1934 in Akron, Ohio, to Harold and Helen Taggart, died Sept. 22, 2013.

He graduated 8th grade from St. Sebastian's Catholic School and, in 1952, from St. Vincent's Catholic High School, which later became St. Vincent-St. Mary's Catholic High School. He then took his pre-dental studies at the University of Notre Dame and his dental studies from Marquette University where he graduated as a dentist in June, 1958. He then married his beloved wife, Colleen Deeley, and they lived in Forrestal Village, Great Lakes Naval Station, in Illinois, where he served as a Lieutenant in the Naval Dental Corps.

In 1960, Don and Colleen moved to Bellevue, Ohio, to set up his dental practice. They were members of Immaculate Conception Church, where Don became a long time member of the Knights of Columbus. He also became a life-member of the Elks Club and an active, founding member of the Bellevue Rotary Club. In addition, he served proudly on the board of the Sorrowful Mother Shrine in Bellevue. He and Colleen traveled to a number of countries several times each year for many years with a Dental Seminar Group. He eagerly followed his four children's activities, including his sons' football and track events and his daughter's dance recitals and scouting activities. He also enjoyed socializing with friends, sharing a good joke, and playing with their four sweet dogs.

When Don retired from his dental practice in 1998, they moved to Longboat Key, Fla., where they became members of Star of Sea Catholic Church. Eventually they moved to Osprey, Florida, where they joined Our Lady of Mount Carmel church and at times attended St. Michael the Archangel Church on Siesta Key. Don was a very charitable, compassionate man, encouraging Colleen to give to her many human and animal charities and also to the homeless. He was pre-deceased by his parents; brother, Ed; sister-in-law, Rosie Taggart; brother-in-law, Michael Deeley; grandparents, many aunts and uncles, and several cousins.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Colleen, of 55 years; much-loved children, Julie Canter, Tom (Patty), Ted (Bonita), and Tim (Lisa), son-in-law, Jim Canter; eight beautiful grandchildren, Chase, Alec and Madison Canter, Andrew and Katy Taggart, Joseph Taggart, Carley and Claire Taggart; and a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Deeley.
