Dorothea Irene (Wells) Dial Obituary
Dorothea Irene Wells Dial, age 98, passed away on January 28, 2013, at Emeritus at Conway Place in Conway, S.C., after a brief illness.

She was born on July 13, 1914, in Evansville, Indiana, and was the daughter of Charles Wesley Wells and Cora Irene Hooker Wells. She grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where she graduated from South Side High School. She graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. She completed her post graduate degree at Gradwohl School of Medical Technology in St. Louis, Missouri.

She married Dr. William Richard Dial, a fellow graduate of Ohio Wesleyan. They were married on September 18, 1936, in Champaign, Illinois, where he was completing his PhD degree in Organic Chemistry at the University of Illinois. Dr. Dial was Director of Research for PPG Industries at their Technical Center in Barberton, Ohio, for many years. He was the son of John Franklin Dial and Ruth Stuckey Dial of Washington C. H., Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband on September 5, 1991, and by her grandson, Douglas Edward Ubl, on October 16, 2000. Surviving are her daughter, Joyce Ubl; son-in-law, Marlowe Ubl; grandson, Steven Ubl and his wife Kelly; great-grandchildren, Hannah Scarberry, Tristan Douglas and Raigan Marlo Ubl, all of Myrtle Beach.

Mrs. Dial was a resident of Akron, Ohio, for 69 years. In 2007, she moved to Myrtle Beach, S.C., to live with her daughter. In Akron, she was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She enjoyed being a Girl Scout Leader, teaching English to foreign born students at the International Institute, and being a long time volunteer in the labs at St. Thomas Hospital. She happily visited Hawaii 25 times in the winter months. She loved painting and took lessons from the fine artist, Jack Richards, for many years. And, she was an avid sports fan.

Her wishes were to be cremated and for her services to be private. She will be interred at Rose Hill Cemetery in Akron, Ohio. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the breast cancer fund: , 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75244.
