NEW FRANKLIN -- Edward A. Aukscunas, 92, passed away on August 8, 2014 after a long struggle with Alzheimers.
Born in Bethel, Pennsylvania on May 5, 1922, he was a valedictorian graduate of Midland High School. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II and after the war received his engineering degree from The University of Akron.
Edward was employed by Goodyear Aerospace in the Aircraft Wheel and Brake Division in September 1950 and later became Manager of Advanced Technology, retiring in June 1984 after 34 years of service.
For over 30 years, Edward and his wife enjoyed their travels and sailing adventures East of the Sun, West of the Moon. He enjoyed their family gatherings, golf and bowling leagues, and his community.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Enick and Anna; brother, Nick; and sisters, Mary, Julie, Frances, and Phylis. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Agnes; stepchildren, Cheryl Just and Ronald D. Kline; sister, Lee; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the staff of Akron General Hospital and Hospice for their extraordinary care.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no calling hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. If so desired, a memorial gift may be made in Edward's name to Akron General Hospice Care, 3358 Ridgewood Rd., Akron, OH 44333.
