Elmer L. "Tippy" Dye Obituary
Elmer (Tippy) L. Dye

Elmer (Tippy) L. Dye passed away May 12, 2014.

He was born in Jewel Ridge, Va. on August 10, 1921. The family moved to the Akron area in 1926, living in the Portage Lakes for the rest of his life.

Tippy was a proud Army Veteran, serving in Europe during World War II. He attained the rank of Sergeant and received many commendations including the French Croix de Guerie in April 1946.

After his discharge he pursued a career as a U.S. Postal Carrier until 1955 when he began his life work as a life insurance salesman with Western and Southern, a job he enjoyed until his retirement in 1985. Retired for 29 years, he passed his time with his family and friends, spending as much time as possible fishing wherever there was a fish to catch.

Preceded in death by his mother, Bertha and father Bert, he is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Julie; younger brothers, Clyde and Jim; sons, Paul, Robert, and Larry (Janet); daughter, Mary Saffles; grandchildren, Patrick, Ryan, Adam, Danny, Mary and Paul; and many nieces and nephews.

The family has chosen cremation. A memorial will be at a later date for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Metro Parks - Kids fishing programs, 975 Treaty Line Road, Akron, OH 44313. (ADAMS MASON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 330-535-9186)
