James (Jim) Zimmerman

James (Jim) Zimmerman, 84, passed away suddenly April 15, 2014.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Virginia Zimmerman; his wife of 56 years, Sue Ann and his second wife, Barbara. He is survived by brother, Paul of Murriells Inlet, S.C.; sister, Charlotte Bryner and husband Merle of Sarasota Fla./Toledo, Ohio; sister, Virginia Chapman and husband David of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; one nephew, three nieces, six grandnephews and three grandnieces.

Jim served in the USNR and the U.S. Marine Corps and was deployed to Korea during the Korean war. After the war, he and Sue Ann lived in west Akron for over 40 years. He retired from Chrysler Twinsburg stamping plant. He moved to Murrells Inlet, S.C. in 1994 and to Bradenton, Fla.in 2010.

Jim was a friend to all and was always helpful and kind. He was an active volunteer for the Akron Zoo, Mobile Meals on Wheels and many other service organizations.

A military memorial service will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio at 1 p.m. on June 16. The family suggest memorial donations to the Akron Zoo Education Fund, 500 Edgewood Ave., Akron 44307 or the .
