Joanne Fiorelli Tancredi |
Joanne Fiorelli Tancredi age 78, peacefully passed away July 7, 2014 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
Joanne was born in Cleveland to the late Nicholas and Mary Fiorelli on August 22, 1935. During her childhood, her family relocated to Northridge California. Joanne was a member of the 1953 graduating class of Canoga Park High School in California. After high school, she moved back to Cleveland to reside with her beloved grandparents, Angelo and Grace Caruso, on Mandalay Avenue in Cleveland. She fell in love with a Cleveland musician, Vincent Tancredi. They eloped to Angola, Indiana, a popular wedding destination of the time, on February 11, 1955, just before Vincent entered the Navy. Joanne and Vincent shared conservative political views and spent some exciting times together working on various political campaigns, including Barry Goldwater's presidential bid of 1964. During their 23 year marriage, they raised three children, Dana, Nicholas and Dara, all graduates of Nordonia Hills High School. In the mid 1970's, Joanne turned her attention to becoming a newspaper reporter correspondent. She was a respected journalist with a career spanning over 20 years reporting for The Plain Dealer, The Akron Beacon Journal, The News Leader and The Bulletin. In addition to her interest in current events, she was an indoor plant enthusiast who enjoyed crafts, baking, reading, and collecting.
Joanne was an enthusiastic and loving grandparent to her three grandchildren, Evan Ekstrand of Ohio, Regina and Timothy Grogan of Utah, all of whom survive her. She is survived by her former husband, Vincent Tancredi; and their three children, Dana Ekstrand, Dara Tancredi (m. Timothy Grogan) of St. George, Utah, and Nicholas Tancredi of Houston Texas. Joanne is also survived by her three siblings, Barbara Ratner, John Fiorelli and William Fiorelli.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Gardens of the Western Reserve for the excellent care of Joanne during her illness.
