COPLEY -- John C. Hibbard, 82, died unexpectedly at his residence January 14, 2013. Mr. Hibbard was born in Cincinnati, raised in Stow and Cuyahoga Falls and lived in Copley for over 40 years, moving there from Akron and had graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1948, and was a graduate of Kent State University. He retired from the Internal Revenue Service as an investigator and auditor and had been a combat Marine in the Korean War and served in the Chosen Reservoir. He had been commandant of the Marine Corps League Chesty Puller Detachment, had volunteered at the Brecksville VA Hospital and was past treasurer of Arrow Lake Recreational Association.

Preceded in death by his parents, James and Louise Hibbard, he is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Ruth Hibbard of Cuyahoga Falls; nephew, Jim (Becky) Hibbard and their sons, John and Evan and niece, Carole (Paul) Sanford and their children, Matthew and Rachel.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 in The Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls, Rev. Stephen Gehlert officiating. Inurnment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends beginning at 12 noon Saturday. In lieu of other remembrances, memorials may be made to Copley Police Dept. for use in various community projects, 1280 Sunset Dr., Copley, OH 44321 or Fire Rescue Association, 1540 S. Cleveland-Massillon Rd., Copley, OH 44321.
