John Novotny, 86, passed away on January 24 in Akron, Ohio after a long illness.
Born in Isabella, Pa., he was a long time resident of Greensburg, Pa. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, then graduated from Penn State University as an electrical engineer. He had a 42 year career with West Penn Power Co. retiring in 1991 while Director of Engineering. He also volunteered his time as a board member on several charities including the United Way and Boy Scouts of America.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; daughter, Rebecca (Thomas) Zundel of Oxford, Pa.; son, Robert (Mary) of Hudson, Ohio; four grandchildren, Jeffrey (Shannon) Zundel, Diane (Chris) Milano, Amy (Nick) Kokkinos, John Novotny; and one great-granddaughter, Camryn Zundel.
Calling hours Monday 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Ciriello and Carr Funeral Home, 39 S. Miller Rd., Fairlawn, OH 44333. Mass of Christian Burial 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Hilary Catholic Church, followed by interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to ISC Hospice, 28550 Westlake Village Dr., Westlake, OH 44145 or St. Hilary Church, 2750 W. Market St., Fairlawn, OH 44333.
