Lester C. Eckart, 86, passed away peacefully at Rolling Green Village in Greenville, S.C., on Nov 15, 2013.

Lester is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lois Jean; their three sons, Larry (Marla), Lowell (Kathy) and Loren (Clarissa); their seven grandchildren, (Christopher, Patrick, Rachel, Jennifer, Kristine, Gabriel and Maya).

Lester is also survived by sisters, Hazel (Bob) Neveu and Dorothy Hawk; brothers, Harold (Lois) and Richard (Carolyn).

Lester was born in Copley, Ohio, and graduated from Baldwin Wallace College with a degree in Music Education, then completed his Masters Degree in Music Education from the University of Michigan. He taught music for 33 years, bringing the gift of music into the lives of his own family and multiple generations of students at church and at school. He married Lois Jean Miller in 1951 and attended Bath United Church of Christ for 56 years, where he directed the choir for 13 years and the brass choir for 18 years. In 2007, Lois and Lester moved from their home in Bath, Ohio to Rolling Green Village in South Carolina to be closer to their family. Throughout his life, his two main passions were music and farming.

A memorial service to celebrate Lester's life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30th at Rolling Green Village, 1 Hoke Smith Blvd., Greenville, S.C. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, which donates musical instruments to under-funded music programs throughout the United States.
