Lester Truel Sharp died July 3, 2013 at the age of 99 years in Pompano Beach, Florida. He was born December 30, 1913 in Elgin, Illinois. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1936. Lester married Ida Mann, of Rossville, Illinois, in 1939 and came to live in Cleveland and then to Akron in 1942, residing in Silver Lake. Lester worked for Firestone until the end of World War ll and then took a job in sales with Akron Standard Mold, becoming President of the company in 1966 and retiring as Chairman of the Board in 1978. He and Ida then moved to Florida. He was an avid golfer until the age of 95. |
Lester was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, in 2010. He is survived by their sons, John Truel of Kent, Richard Dale of Washington D.C., four grandchildren, six great-grand children, and two great-great-grandchildren.
His ashes will be interred with those of Ida in Mann's Chapel Cemetery in Rossville, Illinois.
