Lillie Mae Blackmon

Lillie Mae Blackmon, 89, of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away December 17, 2013.

She was born in Black-shear, Georgia, November 9, 1924 to Leo and Amy Marshall. She graduated from Lee Street High School and received her Bachelors from Savannah State University and her Masters from Hampton Institute.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elihu Robert Blackmon, Sr; and brother, Leo Marshall, Jr; sister, Nettie Webb. She is survived by sisters, Fannie Morris of Blackshear, Georgia and sister Amy McNeal (Grady McNeal, Sr) of Goodlettsville, Tennessee.

She was married to Elihu Robert Blackmon, Sr in 1954. In this union, five children were born. Tonja Blackmon of Columbus, Ohio; Beth Blackmon of Akron, Ohio; Steven Blackmon, deceased; Elihu (Bobby) Blackmon, Jr, of Scottsdale, Arizona; and Jeanine Robbins (DeVon Robbins) of Scottsdale, Arizona. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; Michael Robbins, Raven Robbins, Bryanna Robbins, Bria Robbins, L.B. Blackmon, Chanel Blackmon, Alaina Burchill, Chimere Hodoh (Lawrence Hodoh), Maya Little and Mary Little.

Lillie Mae lived in Akron, Ohio for 51 years. She was a School Teacher for the Akron Public Schools retiring in 1989. She was a faithful member and Youth Leader of First Baptist Church in Wadsworth, Ohio for many years. She also was a member of Sorority, IOTA PHI LAMBDA doing what she loved which was community service.

Service will be held Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home, 529 W. Thornton St., Akron, Ohio 44307, Pastor Rufus Thompson officiating. Interment Lakewood Cemetery, 1080 W. Waterloo Rd., Akron, Ohio 44314. Friends may visit at the Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
