CUYAHOGA FALLS-Michael Politz, 94, passed peacefully on February 28, 2014, with his high school sweetheart and bride of 73 years, Maxine, by his side holding his hand.

Mike was born in Akron, Ohio on October 25, 1919 to James and Anna Politz. Raised on Tyler Street in Akron, Ohio, Mike graduated from South High School in 1938. He was always willing to share the many stories of his childhood in the Akron area. Proud of his Sicilian heritage, Mike also took pride in being one of the participants in the 1st American Soap Box Derby and in 2009 had the honor of participating in and winning the Oil Can Derby. Mike married Maxine on May 10th, 1940 and spent the last 73 years together residing in Cuyahoga Falls. Mike proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre and is a proud member of the VFW Ralph Huff Post 1062, American Legion Post 281, BPO Elks Lodge 1923, Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the Italian American Citizens Club. Mike was employed as a machinist/tool & die/ jig maker for Falls Engineering, O'Neil Mfg. and retiring after 33 years from Hunt Machine. Among Mike's many activities he enjoyed woodworking, golf, bowling and spending time with his family, particularly on his porch, Susie's Porch. We will always have fond memories of the time spent on that porch enjoying stories, songs and harmonica playing with friends and neighbors.

Preceded in passing by parents, James and Anna; brother, James; daughters, Susan Politz and Patricia Kraft and many friends and colleagues; he leaves to remember Maxine, his wife of 73 years; daughters, Pamela (Clay) Reno, and Shelly (Dave) Pyott; grandchildren, SSgt. Steven Pyott and Nikki Pyott, Mike, Eric and Shawn Kraft; brother, Frank (Mary) Politz; nephews, Mike, Frank, Jimmy and nieces, Teresa, Cathy and Cindy.

The family would like to express their thanks to daughter Pamela for the ultimate care during the last months of Mike's time here on earth.

Grandpa, we can't thank you enough for the many wonderful years of memories that we will always treasure. Holding our hands when we were little, taking us to the Vets club to have a ginger ale and popcorn, spending hours in the garage working on projects as well as time well spent on the golf course. You will always be in our hearts.

Cremation has taken place. Friends may call from 1 to 3 prior to a 3 p.m. Memorial Service on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home, 1930 Front Street.
