Norbert Alfred Olzmann Obituary
Norbert Alfred Olzmann

Norbert Alfred Olzmann passed away October 28, 2013.

He now joins his loving parents, Arthur and Irmgard (Jebing) Olzmann; and his beloved son, Kyle Olzmann, who predeceased him.

He is survived by his dear wife, Marilyn Olzmann; his brother, Kurt Olzmann (Mary Ann); his nephews and niece, Matthew, James, and Amy Olzmann; his step-daughters, Jaime Madachik (John) and Kelly McGreal; and his grandchildren, Chloe, Lily, and Tessa.

Born February 28, 1944 and raised in Michigan, Norbert's parents taught him the value of hard work, which he affectionately attributed to their German heritage. He studied at Purdue University and later at the University of Michigan where he earned a B.S. and M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, respectively. During his career as an aerospace engineer for the United States Space Program, he was involved in history-making endeavors such as the Apollo missions. He later worked as an aeronautical engineer, specializing in military aircraft software validation. He was lifelong swimmer who won All American Honors for two years in the U.S. Masters Swimming Program, and finished top ten in the Masters Nationals 16 times. He had an enduring fondness for the outdoors, where he often engaged in activities he loved: biking, camping, and canoeing. He played violin with the Stow Symphony Orchestra and at weddings, funerals, and church services.

Beyond his achievements and his passions, Norbert will be remembered for his resilience, his wonderful sense of humor, his loving gratitude, and his abundance of hugs.

The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church (2113 Ravenna Street, Hudson, Ohio). Friends will be received following the service at a luncheon reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Norbert's name to the Stow Symphony Orchestra, P.O. Box 1495, Stow, Ohio 44224.
