Robert Lee Lewis

Robert Lee Lewis, 70, formerly of Akron, Ohio, was born on September 29, 1943 to Rosie Lee and John Henry Lewis Sr.

Robert was a man who stood big and tall and believed in higher learning, an avid reader who loved to "talk" Social justice. He also loved social work, mentoring, cooking, sports and chess. But most of all he loved Jazz.

He served his country for four years joining the Navy in 1960. He later moved to Michigan where he lived until he made his transition into Glory.

Robert was preceded in death by parents, Rosie Lee and Phillip Lawrence who raised him; grandmother, Emma Lee Oliver "WaWa"; aunts, Sarah M. Yancey, Dorothy R. Miller (James); brother, John Henry Lewis Jr. "Tokyo/Buddy"; sister, Vivian Ann Jones; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Lewis "Cookie"; and son, Garland "Pookie" Marshall (mother Anita Marshall Jackson).

He will be greatly missed by brothers, Willie C. Lewis "Clyde" (Elizabeth), Alexander "Boobie" Jones, both of Akron, and Oscar L. Lawrence (Lisa) of LaGrange, Ill.; sisters, Estelle "Marie" Brown of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Barbara Lawrence-Bostick of Chicago Ridge, Ill., and Rochelle Lawrence-Turner (John) of Akron; children, Pam, Elvis, Charles and Curt Gholston (Shalanda); mother of children, Mary Gholston; grandchildren, Shavonna, Shania, Shanece, Martezz, Chanadia and Dominique, all of Detroit, Mich.; brother-in-law, Wilburt Bostick of Durham, N.C.; close friends, Rick Newton of Beecher, Ill., Nelson Roberts and Tommy Williams of Burton, Il.; also his NA Home Group-New Attitude who supported him throughout his recovery; extended family too numerous to mention including, but not limited to, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Service will be held Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 12 noon at Burning Bush Church, 1104 Johnston St. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of service, Pastor Curtis Gholston eulogizing, Kenneth J. Washington Sr. Phd. officiating. Condolences may be sent to 1153 Himelright Blvd., and 1633 Eastwood Ave. Procession will form at 1153 Himelright Blvd., Akron, Ohio 44320.
