Steven Albert Maurer|
With his family by his side, Steven Albert Maurer, age 69, passed away February 10, 2014 at the Cleveland Clinic.
Born May 8, 1944 in Sioux Falls, S.D., Steve moved with his family to several cities before moving to Lakewood, Ohio in 1955. It was there that he later met, only weeks before moving to Pennsylvania, the 13 year old girl who would become his cherished wife of 47 years.
Steve graduated from Amherst College ('66) and later earned his law degree from the University of Minnesota ('69). For several years he worked for the State of Minnesota Attorney General's Office. Their first child, Joel, was born there before moving to Ohio in 1973 to open a Hickory Farms of Ohio store in Akron, the same year their daughter, Sage, was born.
After 13 years of owning several stores and seasonal kiosks, Steve left the retail sector and joined Sanford Rose Associates. In 1990, he joined Cole Co., LPA where he worked as a general practice lawyer until his passing.
Steve will be missed for his kind, deliberate manner, his steadfastness and witty sense of humor.
Steve is survived by his wife, Jean; son, Joel (Julia and granddaughter Natalie); daughter, Sage Case (Dale and grandchildren Lily, Maxine and Baxter); sister, Phyllis (Charles) Rumbarger; and countless other friends and family members who were dear to him.
Friends may call on the family today from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Maurer Residence. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron, Amherst College, the Ann and David Deming Scholarship Fund at the Cleveland Institute of Art, or the
