Tedford E. Johnston of 125 Samaritan Dr., Cumming, Ga., formerly of Akron, Ohio and Hermitage, Pa.. Passed away on Monday, April 30, 2012 at 10:20 a.m. in Chestnut Ridge Nursing Center. He was 91.|
Mr. Johnston was born on September 19, 1920 in Sharon, Pa., the son of Howard E. and Helen V. Johnston.
He was a 1938 graduate of Sharon High School.
Mr. Johnston served in the U.S. Marine Corp Third Air Wing and the U.S. Navy Air Corp V5 Program during World War II.
Tedford retired in 1982 from Akron Hardware and Supply Company where he worked in contract sales. He previously worked for PPG and United Plate Glass in Akron.
His memberships included the Sharon American Legion Post #0299, and the Hermitage V.F.W. Post #6166. He enjoyed working with wood and glass and refinishing furniture. He was a volunteer with the American Red Cross, Summit County Park System in Akron with Meals on Wheels Program, and the Prince of Peace Center in the Shenango Valley.
His wife, Ellen Venetti Johnston, whom he married July 17, 1943, passed away on May 28, 2009. They celebrated 65 years of marriage in 2008.
Tedford is survived by, a daughter, Nancy E. and her husband, John M. Collier of Antioch, Calif.; two sons, Charles H. Johnston and his wife, Michaelene of Charlottesville, Va. and Kevin M. Johnston and his wife, Sindy of Cumming, Ga.; a sister, Mary Spadin of Hermitage; four grandchildren, Brooke, Chase, and Cody Johnston and Dallas Collier; a great grandson, Dameon Collier.
In addition to his parents and wife, Tedford was preceded in death by two brothers, Alton H. and Robert L. Johnston; a sister, Helen M. "Betty" Brown.

A memorial service for Tedford will be on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of St. Anthony's Cemetery, Hermitage. Family will receive friends a half hour prior to the service. Full military honors will be conducted following the memorial service.
Interment will take place in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Hermitage.
