Thomas F. Lavery, 99, passed away on Nov. 7, 2013.
Born in Akron on Feb. 14, 1914 to the late John and Catherine (Maier) Lavery, Mr. Lavery has been a lifelong Akron resident. He was a graduate of St. Vincent High School Class of '31 and Ohio State University where he earned his Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Chemical Engineering. After serving in the U.S. Army, he went to work for Battelle Memorial Institute, Beckman Instruments, Firestone Research and later retired from Allied Chemical. An active member of St. Vincent's Parish he was also a long-time member of the Holy Name Society. An Eagle Scout, continued to be involved in the Boy Scouts for many years. He was an avid wrestling and football supporter for St.Vincent and Medina Sports. He enjoyed hiking and fishing especially with his grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Dr. Evelyn Lavery and his daughter, E. Eileen Jozwiak; he is survived by sons, Thomas F., of Akron, John (Monica) of Raleigh, N. C., and James D. (Linda) of Medina; daughter, Dr. Mary Ann (Mike Brott) Lavery of Pepper Pike; son-in-law, Stan Jozwiak; fifteen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, from 2 to 5 p.m. (PLEASE NOTE TIME CORRECTION) at the Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home (811 Grant St.) where the Holy Name Society will recite the Rosary at 4:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Vincent's Catholic Church followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
