Timothy A. Khol, 70, of Kent, passed this life to be with our Heavenly Father on Monday, February 24, 2014.
He was born May 4, 1943 in Cleveland, son of the late Emil and Esther (Knott) Khol. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Baldwin-Wallace College as well as Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy Degrees from Ohio University.
Dr. Khol worked as a clinical psychologist in Portage County from 1973 until his retirement in 2012, initially serving three years at a local mental health center in Ravenna prior to the establishment of Coleman Professional Services. He was owner of Portage Psychological Associates in Ravenna for 20 years before merging practices with the Gary Robinson & Associates, LLC psychological practice in Kent in 1996. He served as Chair of several committees for the Executive Committee of the Ohio Psychological Association during the 1980's. Dr. Khol served as a member of the Medical Staff of Robinson Memorial Hospital for 25 years. His personal interests included travel, photography, book collecting, and scootering.
Dr. Khol is survived by his devoted wife, Jill (Schmidt) whom he married in 1985 and who was his patient and tireless caregiver as he battled cancer in recent years. He is also survived by his daughter, Adrienne (Rob) Hammill of Cincinnati; sons, Matthew of Akron and Justin (fiancée Brittany O'Brien ) of Kent; sister, Linda (Lee) Swanson of Kansas; brothers, Mark (Anne) of Michigan and Richard (Carol) of Kansas; grandchildren, Joseph and Rebecca Hammill; many beloved nieces and nephews; dear friend, Martha Archer; and his cat, Kocka.
The family gives special thanks to his doctors at the Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital, and the staffs of Robinson Memorial Visiting Nurses and Hospice and Tucson Medical Center Hospice, for their excellent care.
Dr. Khol was a member of the Kent United Church of Christ. Calling hours will be held 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 5th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 6th at Kent United Church of Christ with Rev. Heather C. Wicks and Rev. David Pattee officiating. Private burial will be held at Standing Rock Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Kent United Church of Christ, Circle of Caring Program, 1400 E. Main Street, Kent, OH 44240.
