William (Bill) Leo Shea, age 86, died in Copley, Ohio, in the loving embrace of his four children on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, from cancer. |
Born on July 7, 1926 in Somerville, Mass., he resided in Connecticut, Georgia, North Carolina and Ohio. Bill attended Medford High School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and graduated from The United States Naval Academy in 1948. He also earned his MBA from American International University. He served in the Korean War on the USS Philippine Sea. After being honorably discharged with the rank of Lt JG from the U.S. Navy, he began his career in sales with IBM. He then began a 32 year career with Equitable Life Assurance Company specializing in Pension Plan Investment and Management until his retirement in 1988. Bill was an active member of the Elks and Knights of Columbus and an avid supporter of Boys Town and St. Jude's Hospital. He had a lifetime love of the ocean and for many years resided on the water in Madison, Conn. and vacationed in Cape Cod and Hilton Head Island, S.C. Watching his children and grandchildren participate in sporting events, and being surrounded by family while enjoying dinner and engaging in lively and challenging discussions about sports, current events, and politics brought Bill tremendous joy.
Bill was predeceased by his loving wife of 33 years, Jean Wilson Bergin. He is survived by his children, Patricia A. Shea of Roswell, Ga., Joanne M. (Dennis) Dedo of Winston-Salem, N.C., Daniel J. (Martine) Shea of Atlanta, Ga., William E. (Gina) Shea of Copley, Ohio; and grandchildren, Lindsay, Kimberly, Michael, Stephen, Ryan, Christopher, Kevin, Griffin, and Morgan.
A Funeral Mass will be said at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 11, 2013 at St. Jude The Apostle Church, Sandy Springs, Georgia with Interment to follow in Arlington Memorial Park, Sandy Springs, Ga. Rev. Adam Ozimek will serve as Celebrant. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Boys Town in Omaha, Nebr., St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. or the
