June 9, 1926 - January 28, 2013 MOORE ALICE MARTHA COPELAND LASH was born to George Holliday and Mabel Abbie (Lindley) Copeland, on June 9, 1926, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She passed away January 28, 2013 in Moore, Oklahoma. When she was five years old the family moved to her Grandfather Lindley's farm near Jefferson, OK. There she grew up and graduated as Valedictorian of the Jefferson High School Class of 1944. In February of 1946 Alice Martha's fiance of two years, and love of her life, Gene Lash, a survivor of the Belgium Battle of the Bulge, was discharged from the U.S. Army. Gene and Alice Martha were married on July 17, 1946 and became the parents of four daughters and one son. She adored their children and encouraged them in their many school, church, and community activities. In 1966 she was asked by the Washita County Community Action director to return to OSU to prepare, plan, and direct the first Head Start program in Washita County. In 1971, Alice Martha graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, and Master of Education in 1974. She taught Elementary Learning Disabilities in Crescent and Guthrie, OK, before teaching Secondary Learning Disabilities in the Yukon, OK Public Schools for sixteen years. After retiring from teaching, Alice Martha worked as a literacy instructor for VISTA, (Volunteers In Service To America). With VISTA, she traveled throughout Oklahoma training inmates to teach literacy to other inmates for the Okla. Dept. of Corrections. After her retirement she and Gene traveled to many VA reunions and national conferences. Alice Martha was a lifetime member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. She was elected to National Americanism Officer and National Region V President. After living thirty-three years in Yukon, OK, Gene and Alice Martha moved to their present home in Moore, OK. Alice Martha has been an active member of the First Christian Church of Moore since 1991. She was preceded in death by her parents, her only brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Grace Copeland, brother-in-law, Homer Lynch, granddaughter, Chelsey Lash, son-in-law, Wayne Dunn, two sisters-in-law, Donna Bloss and Betty Schuesssler. She is survived by her husband and soul mate of 66 years, Gene Lash; their children, Charlotte Dunn, Moore, OK, Denise Reiswig (Dennis), Huntsville, TX, Deborah Maxon (Gary), OKC, Tedd Lash (Gina), Moore, OK, Gina Lash-Hirt (Joseph), Pasadena, CA; and one sister, Barbara C. Lynch, Urbana, OH; eleven grandchildren, Deanna Wright (Mike), Cleveland, TN, Tanya Cary (Chris), Altus, OK, Megan Bradley (Shaun), Norman, OK, Heather Tessman (Paul), Montgomery, TX, Matt Maxon (Brittany), OKC, Alicia Westfall (Austin), Kyle, TX, Tiffany Blair (D.J.), OKC, Joseph Hirt ( Erica), and Christopher Hirt (Velvet) both of Pasadena, CA, Michael Callan and Matthew Callan, both of Norman, OK; fourteen great grandchildren, Jacob and Kaitlyn Wright, Madilyn and Jaycelyn Bradley, Bella and Kenna Tessman, Mylie Maxon, Hunter and Laura Blair, Mya, Ariel, Kaylie, Christopher Hirt and Asher Westfall. Other survivors are her two sisters-in-law, Nita Bugni, Bakersfield, CA, and Laurita Howland, Visalia, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Memorial services will be held in the First Christian Church of Moore, Moore, OK, 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 3, 2013. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Abiding Memorial Fund at the First Christian Church of Moore.
