Jan. 27, 1928 - Mar. 2, 2014 ROWLETT, TX Services for B. Leon Dudley, 86 of Rowlett, formerly of Tyler, are scheduled for March 6th at 10:00 a.m. at Burks Wal-ker Tippit Funeral Home Cha-pel in Tyler. He will be laid to rest at Earl's Chapel Cemetery near Jacksonville. Leon passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2014. He was born January 27, 1928 in Ironton to the late Kirkland Cader Dudley and Emily Estelle Pledger. He is survived by his wife Helen of 62 years, daughter Diane Elaine Alsup and granddaughter, Emily Alsup.He completed management courses at the University of Texas, Oklahoma and Virginia. He served 4 years in the Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict in the counter-intelligence division.He began his postal career in 1949 at Tyler and was promoted rapidly to superintendent of mails at the Tyler Post Office. In 1966 he joined the old Dallas Postal Region as a postal service officer working in McAllen and Dallas. In 1972 he was appointed sectional center manager/postmaster of Oklahoma City. He served there until he was promoted in 1980 to district manager of the Maryland/District of Columbia Postal District. In 1981 he was appointed sectional center/manager postmaster at Dallas. He retired in 1987 after 41 years service. He spent six years of his retirement as an independent oil producer with interest in Southwestern Oklahoma.He returned to Tyler after retirement and 13 years later, he and Helen returned to Dallas to be near their daughter and granddaughter.Leon was active in community affairs. He served as Chairman of the Dallas Metropolitan Combined Federal Campaign and as director on the Federal Executive Board in Dallas. He also was a member of the Rotary Club and the National Association of Postmasters.The family will receive friends at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home March 5th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
