Sept. 17, 1935 - June 22, 2014 CHOCTAW Kent Carter ObituaryBrian "Kent" Carter went to be with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, June 22, 2014, after a valiant battle with cancer at the age of 78. Kent was able to live out his final days in his home in Choctaw under the loving care of his wife and family who were only too grateful to honor his wish of passing away at home. Kent was born to Orville Britton Carter and Dollie Mae Carter in Weleetka, Oklahoma on September 17, 1935. Kent met his wife Linda at a diner when they were teenagers, and they spent 60 loving years in a marriage that was an inspiration to all who knew them. Kent graduated from Gupton-Jones Mortuary Institute in Dallas, TX, in 1960, and was employed as a funeral director for twenty years. He finished up his working career as an insurance investigator for Reserve National Insurance Company. Kent was an avid race car fan and was skilled at building street rods. He loved to travel with his wife to places near and far. They took countless trips to Eureka Springs, AR, and traveled several times to Australia. Kent was a Thunder Basketball fan, and loved to watch the games. He also loved music, and passed this love onto his children and grandchildren, along with his dry wit and humor. Kent will be dearly missed, and is survived by his loving wife Linda Carter, his sisters Ellen Highsmith, and Carol Lind, his son Mark Carter, daughter Shelly Shobert, adopted daughter Letha Ivie, seven grandchildren, Feather, Tyson, Jamie, Britton, Valerie, Haylee & Trey, and nine great-grandchildren, Alex, Brooklyn, Kaitlyn, Callie, Kyler, Kwynn, Bailey, Chloe, and Bennett. A celebration of Kent's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday June 26, 2014 at Barnes & Friederich Funeral Home in Midwest City with interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Choctaw.
