Charles R. PetersAugust 10, 1940 - May 31, 2014 MUSTANG Lt. Col. (Retired) Charles Ray Peters, age 73, died Saturday, May 31, 2014, in an Oklahoma City hospital after a short illness. He was born August 10, 1940 in Hartford, Kentucky to Charles Jasper and Alta G. (Fuqua) Peters. He grew up in Louisville, KY and was a graduate of duPont Manual High School. He attended the University of Louisville where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1962, and he later earned a Master of Science in Counseling and Guidance from Troy State University in 1974. He was a career Veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving from 1962 onward, including service in Vietnam as a C-130 pilot and later activity in air traffic control. He Retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1983. After a short time working in real estate, he returned to aviation and was employed for twenty years by the FAA, where he was active in flight checking navigational aids for instrument approaches. During his flying career, he gained significant operational experience in over ten separate models of turboprop and jet aircraft, from the T-38 to the Boeing 737. While based in Washington, DC, Charlie flew many senior level FAA, NTSB and other U.S. Government officials worldwide, to assist in transportation accident investigations and other official government business. After retiring from FAA in 2004, he enjoyed very much being a "gentleman farmer and rancher" in Mustang, OK. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Good Shepherd. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and two wives Robbie and Linda Ruth. He is survived by his first wife Georgiana Peters of OKC; their two daughters Kim Wilson and husband John of Hanover, NH, Katherine Clark and husband Jeff of OKC; and two step-daughters Susan Collyar and husband Todd of Colorado, and Karen Kay Nadeau of Dalton, GA. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren Carter, Chandler, Daniel, Rebecca, Kennedy, Kassidy and Rachel; three step-grandchildren, an aunt, and several cousins. The family will receive visitors on Sunday, June 8, 2014, from 2 to 4 p.m. at McNeil's Mustang Funeral Service, Mustang, OK. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 9, at the United Methodist Church of the Good Shepherd in Yukon, OK with interment following in Mt. View Cemetery, Mt. View, Oklahoma. Memorial contributions in his honor may be made to United Methodist Church of the Good Shepherd, or to the Wounded Warrior Project. The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Charlie's special friends Larry and Beverly Gable, and Richard and Vicki Mason, for their abiding love and support during his recent illness.
