Gene W. Adams, 73, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001. Gene was born April 13, 1928, to Letha (Lane) & Everett Adams, in Knowles, OK. In 1945, he moved to Bethany where he graduated from high school and then began his college education at Southern Nazarene University. He graduated from the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science on the Dean's Honor Roll in 1957. He was a dedicated Licensed Funeral Director and served countless families for over 43 years in Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma. He was employed by Guardian Funeral Homes in OKC and then in 1990 went into partnership to establish Gene Adams Funeral Service in Bethany, OK. He was a longtime member and church board member of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, active in the Kumjoynus & Reach Out Sunday School Classes and staff member of NIROGA at Glorietta, NM. As an active community member, Gene was a member and past pres. of Bethany Kiwanis, past pres. of Warr Acres & Bethany Chambers of Commerce, OKC County Health Board, member of NFDA & OFDA, Westside YMCA, and Boy Scoutmaster. He enjoyed woodcarving, traveling and was an avid SNU basketball fan. Gene is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Donnie Adams. He is survived by his wife, Dena; 3 daughters, Tammie Dunn & husband, James, Brenda Teeters & husband, Kevin, and Janice Albright & husband, Kerry; brother, Gaylund Adams & wife, Grovy; sister-in-law, Gwen Adams; 8 grandchildren, Lezli & husband, Todd, Lorrie, Jeffrey, Hannah, Cameron, Elizabeth, Clay and Sophie; 2 great grandchildren, Bailey & Dylan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Memorials may be made to the SNU Athletic Scholarship or BFC Music & Drama Fund. Visitation from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday evening. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thurs., Dec. 13, 2001, at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene followed by interment at Bethany Cemetery. MERCER-ADAMS
