March 14, 1923 - Oct 11, 2013 MIDWEST CITY World War II Veteran, Retired Master Sergeant Hazel Selbe Jr., 90, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, Friday, October 11, 2013, at his home in Midwest City, OK. Hazel Jr. was born on March 14, 1923, in Dacota, WV, the son of the late Hazelwood Selbe and Edna Mae Lowry. Hazel Jr. served proudly in the United States Army, 1942-1946, World War II Asiatic-Pacific Campaign as a Corporal, Machine Gunner of a Half Track. His military career extended honorably another 26 years in the United States Air Force, including the Korean War as Air Craft Mechanic on B26, B29, B47, B50, and C47, then to Maintenance on Atlas and Minute Man Missiles. He was also a graduate of Edison Community College, Piqua, Ohio, and retired civil service of Tinker AFB. Hazel Jr. is survived by his wife, Zella Florence; sons, Gary, Don, Greg, and Jeff; daughters, Rhonda and Pamela; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his nine siblings. The family will receive friends Monday, October 14, 2013, 2-8 p.m. at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at Southern Oaks United Pentecostal Church, 6501 S. Walker Ave., OKC, with interment following at Resthaven Memory Gardens in OKC.
