April 20, 1944 - March 20, 2014 OKLAHOMA CITY Larry Temple Miller, 69, lost his courageous five-year battle with pancreatic cancer Thursday, March 20. His wife, daughter, and son held his hands as he left them. Larry was born and grew up in Fort Worth, TX. His parents were Paul & Millicent (Plummer) Miller. He graduated from the University of Texas-Arlington and received his education degree from Sonoma State University in California. He also received a Master of Divinity from San Francisco Theological Seminary. Larry taught elementary school in Englewood, CO for 10 years before taking a job with the Colorado Education Association/NEA. He then moved to Oklahoma and began work for the Oklahoma Education Association/NEA. Larry retired from OEA in 2011 after a long career improving the professional lives of Oklahoma's public school teachers. Larry was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, OKC. He served as an elder and in many other committees, councils, and roles within the church. His passion within the church was mission work. Twenty years ago, he organized the Youth In Mission program at First Presbyterian, a program that sent many FPC youth on mission projects and trips throughout Oklahoma City and the United States. The program continues to this day. Larry was exceptionally proud of his children. His son, Heath, is the Director of Bands at Tulsa Memorial High School. His daughter, Heidi, is a pediatric hospice nurse in Denver, CO. And his son, Evan, was living his dream as a sailor and pilot in the United States Navy. Larry loved to travel. With Lolieta, his wife, he took his family all over the country. He shared the history and beauty of the United States with his children. In 2012, he completed his goal of visiting all 50 states. He enjoyed photography and passed on his love of trains to his children and grandchildren. Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Lolieta; his son, Heath (Michelle), of Owasso, OK; daughter, Heidi Carlson (Grant), of Denver, CO; and his grandchildren. Larry was a devoted grandfather to all his grandchildren. He was their "BaBa," and he loved his name. His granddaughters even had their special sign language for BaBa. His grandchildren are: Savannah Carlson, 18; Ryan Carlson, 14; Joshua Carlson, 12; Rhys Miller, 6; Salem Miller, 3; and Avonlea Miller, 1. Larry was also thrilled to know that a new Baby Miller was joining the family in the fall. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Paula; and his beloved son, Evan. The family is comforted to know that Larry and Evan have been reunited. The family would like to thank the angels of Crossroads Hospice for their devoted and loving care these past 18 months. Memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, OKC, 1001 NW 25th St., Oklahoma City, OK 73106, on Wednesday, March 26 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ensign Evan Walling Miller Endowment Fund at First Presbyterian, OKC.
