May 11, 1921 - January 7, 2013 PHOENIX, AZ Oletha J. Gill, longtime resident of Shawnee and Oklahoma City, died Monday, January 7, 2013, in Phoenix, Arizona, at the age of 91. Services will be at Village Christian Church, 9401 Ridgeview Drive, Oklahoma City, OK, Saturday February 9, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Oletha was born May 11, 1921 to Okla and Harvey Lowe in Shawnee. She attended Washington Grade School and Shawnee Junior and Senior High Schools. After graduating in 1939, she worked at the Camp Fire office. She joined the Spars (United States Coast Guard Women's Reserve) in 1942. She married Frank Gill in 1943. Frank was also in the Coast Guard and they were the first couple in the same branch of the service to be married in Pottawatomie County. After their discharge from the Armed Forces, they returned to Shawnee where Oletha worked as a bookkeeper. In 1963 they moved to Oklahoma City where she and Frank continued their careers. In retirement, Oletha enjoyed painting, traveling, and visiting with family and friends. She was active at Village Christian Church where she served as treasurer for many years. She moved to Arizona several years ago to be near her son.Oletha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; sisters, Pauline Hannifan, Delores (Bobbie) Cobb, and Lila Wilson. She is survived by her son, Bob Gill (Nancy), grandchildren, Christine Bergstein (Dan) of Phoenix, Suzanne Maring (Jim) of Fargo, ND, Michael Gill of Fargo, ND; three great-grandchildren; cousin, Thelma Barnes; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to: The Village Christian Church, 9401 Ridgeview Drive, Oklahoma City, OK 73120. Graveside service will be private and will be scheduled at a later time.
