Obituary Condolences

MolesMarch 24, 1920 - Dec 7, 2013 WARRENSBURG, MO/ EDMOND Dr. Oliver Walton Moles, longtime resident of Edmond, OK, passed away at the Veterans Home in Warrensburg, MO on Dec. 7, 2013. He was born in Aztec, NM March 24, 1920. Oliver was a student at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, and during his time there, he attended a church conference in Berea, Kentucky, where he met Carol Boegler for the first time. He finished his bachelor's degree and in January of 1941, was called to serve in World War II as part of the Army Corps of Engineers in the South Pacific. He returned home after the war and met Carol for the second time in Chicago. They were married six months later on Dec. 21, 1945. They completed Oliver's ScD in Metallurgy at M.I.T in 1949. His research career in Metallurgy took the Moles family from Massachusetts to New Jersey, Oklahoma, California and Alabama. While in Edmond, OK, he worked at the Kerr-McGee Research Lab in Oklahoma City. Oliver was active in scouting and led a Boy Scout troop up Mt. Whitney in California. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Edmond, where he served as a Deacon and sang in the choir. He was an enthusiastic bridge player and engaged in a number of Bridge Clubs, including Double D and the Men's Bridge Club. Oliver was preceded in death by his wife, Carol, who died in 2010. He is survived by his children: Merry Jo Zimmer (Douglas), of Aberdeen, WA; Ina Gunther (Larry), of Raymore, MO; Ann Brandt (Detlev), of Berlin, MO; and Charles Moles, of Edmond, OK; his four grandchildren and his two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be on Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. at the Bradford Village Nursing Home Chapel, 906 N. Boulevard, Edmond, OK. Burial for Carol and Oliver will be in Menno, SD at a warmer date.
