Aug. 3, 1940 - Feb. 7, 2013 OKLAHOMA CITY Richard Emerson Cies passed away at home on Feb. 7, 2013. Richard, "Dick" to those close to him, was born to Ralph Emerson and Helen Dondore Cies in OKC on Aug. 3, 1940. Richard was a 1958 graduate of Classen High School. He earned a BA in Philosophy from the University of Oklahoma in 1963 and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He served in the Oklahoma 95th Army Reserve Division during the Vietnam War. As an artist, entrepreneur and an antiques purveyor, he opened Faudree's Gift Shop in Shepherd Mall in `65 and became the "Glassblower in the Window". He later owned gift and antique stores in Hot Springs, AR and Ocala, FL, before retiring to OKC. Richard is best remembered for his love of philosophy, history and art, but mostly for his love of all mankind and dreams of peace. Richard is survived by his three daughters, Jeanette Cies Kohne, Allen TX, Julie Cies Arthur, Draper, UT, and Jennifer Carol Cies of Portland, OR, their mother, Carol McCarty Cies, OKC. He is also survived by his step-son Phillip Jones, St. Cloud, FL, son of JoAnn Caballero, OKC. Richard especially loved his many grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother John Dondore Cies, and half-siblings William Cies, Dorothy Cies Stuemky, and Ralph Cies. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday Feb. 16th at 3pm at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 222 NW 15th St., OKC in the Watchorn Chapel.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard's name to: Best Buddies Utah, 11075 S. State Street #4, Sandy, UT 84070. Best Buddies is a non-profit dedicated to serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
