November 8, 1921 - November 1, 2013 OKLAHOMA CITY Thomas Aubrey Chesher Jr. passed away on Nov. 1, 2013. Tom was born on Nov. 8, 1921 in Duncan, OK to Blanche and Thomas A. Chesher. He proudly served his country in WWII as an Army Air Corp C-47 pilot of the 437th Troop Carrier Group towing gliders and transporting troops in the European Theatre. Tom participated in 7 major war efforts including the Normandy Invasion, Arnheim, Bastogne, Battle of the Bulge, Weisel, Germany, and Remagen Bridgehead. Tom received much recognition including the Air Medal with 3 Oak Clusters and an EAME Theater Ribbon with 7 Bronze Service Stars. After serving his country, Tom graduated from the University of Oklahoma with an Electrical Engineering degree and was employed by OG&E for 41 years. On February 21, 1976 he married Marge Uhen. Her six children became his own. All thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild loved and respected him dearly and affectionately called him "Pops". Tom was a devout Christian and member of Christ the King Catholic Church. He was instrumental in supporting the growth of the St. Joseph' s Peruvian Mission. Tom's most memorable times were spent surrounded by family and friends and cheering for his beloved Oklahoma Sooners. Tom is survived by his sister Sue (Don) Gray, OKC, OK; his wife Marge; children: Dan (Mary Ann) Uhen, Wheaton, IL; Fr. Joe Uhen, Piura, Peru; Fr. Tim Uhen, Brookfield, WI: Mary Uhen, Chicago, IL; Carolyn (Jeff) Hardy, Menlo Park, CA; and Laura (Ali) Shilati of Kansas City, MO. Tom was blessed by his thirteen grandchildren - Beth, Steve (Lauren), Jenn, Maggie, and Michael Uhen; Matthew, Mark, John Robert, and Thomas Hardy; Francesca, Natalie, Joseph, and Anthony Shilati; and his first great grandchild, Emma Grey Uhen. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Alice; brothers Grayford and David; sisters Nancy, Ina Mae, Pat, and Betty Jo. A Funeral Mass to celebrate Tom's life will be held at 7:30 pm on Nov. 9th, 2013 at Christ the King Catholic Church 8005 Dorset Dr., OKC, OK.
