Nov. 20, 1927 - Mar. 10, 2013 BETHANY THOMAS M. WINDERSThomas Morehead Winders, 85, formerly of Bethany, OK, for over 30 years, died as a result of pneumonia Sunday, March 10, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford, MS. He and his wife recently moved to North Mississippi, where he resided with family. Tom (aka Tommy) Winders was born to Gilbert L. Winders and Madge Malone Winders on Nov. 20, 1927, in Durham, NC. He married Adelyn Newcomer Smith on September 8, 1974, and was totally devoted to her for over 38 years. He was a Christian and a Methodist. He worked for the FBI in Washington D.C. as a young man and served his country honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was a peace officer for 29 years with the Pasadena Police Department in California and retired as the Deputy Chief in 1979. He was also a 1969 graduate of the FBI National Academy. His law enforcement legacy includes reorganizing the department and creating a unit specially designed to handle the massive New Year's activities in Pasadena. He was respected and honored for his constant dedication to police-community relations.He is survived by his wife, Adelyn; first wife, Marylou Heath Asay; second wife, Hildegard Spahr Winders; three sons, Gregory of Rifle, CO, Dale of Cortez, CO, and Scott of San Jose, CA; two daughters, Laura Murphy of Oxnard, CA, and Kimberly Manzari of Naperville, IL; two step-daughters, Sandy Smith Milon of Glendora, CA, and Linda Smith Lafond of Gilroy, CA; nineteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Gilbert and Richard; his son, Timothy Winders; a grandson, Jason Winders; and a great grandson, Sky Winders.Funeral services and burial with Military Funeral Honors were on Friday, March 15, 2013. Thomas M. Winders was a man of strength, honor and goodness who will be remembered in the hearts of all who loved and knew him.
